OPI Rainbow Connection

This is easily the most-buzzed about polish from the OPI Muppets Collection. Rainbow Connection is a bright rainbow glitterbomb with a clear base, multi-colored round glitter and two sizes of multi-colored hexagon glitter. This looks like candy cupcake sprinkles on your nails and it shines like crazy! Definitely click to enlarge so you can see this beauty up close!

I used four coats here plus one layer of Seche Vite topcoat. You could definitely use less coats though if you wanted to layer this over another polish or just want more of a scattered look. I like it near-opaque because then it looks not just like glitter, but like your nails are jewel-encrusted! The formula is great and I really didn't have problems getting the glitter where I wanted it to go, other than having to guide a few stray pieces away from hanging over my tips.

Obviously Rainbow Connection is very similar to Deborah Lippmann Happy Birthday and its many imitators. I've shown you a well-known Happy Birthday dupe, Milani FX Gems (swatches HERE) before, but I can tell you compared to Milani FX Gems, Rainbow Connection is much brighter and even sparklier. The glitter in Rainbow Connection is pink, orange, silver, yellow, teal and green; all super cheerful and definitely upbeat. I personally prefer Rainbow Connection to FX Gems, but I still like them both and I'm glad to have each in my collection. If you're not a stickler for exact dupes though, Milani FX Gems will give you the same idea for about 4 bucks cheaper than the OPI.

Compared to Happy Birthday itself, Rainbow Connection is very, very close. The biggest difference is Happy Birthday has square glitter, while Rainbow Connection has round. Happy Birthday also seems to have one or two more colors that Rainbow Connection doesn't, but the overall look and effect of the two polishes is quite similar.

If you already have Happy Birthday, you probably don't NEED Rainbow Connection. But then again, I think these types of polishes are super fun so personally I can't get enough of them! If you like Happy Birthday but don't like the $18 pricetag, I'd say Rainbow Connection is the look-alike to get. I think Rainbow Connection is going to be the most popular from the Muppets Collection, so be sure to grab this one while you can!
