Shimmer Trisha

Here's another one from the Amanda files: Shimmer Trisha! Trisha is a predominantly orange glitterbomb, with splashes of gold, blue and magenta thrown in for good measure. I think half the fun of Shimmer polishes is experimenting with different bases. Normally my instinct would be to pair orange glitter with a blue base, but I thought it'd be cool to try something a little different this time, so I paired Trisha with Deborah Lippmann Shoshanna, a periwinkle shimmer.

I did have to do a little dabbling to get the glitter where I wanted it to go, but Trisha has a nice formula overall.

I'm not sure these two polishes go together perfectly--maybe a deeper purple would have been a better match--but I do think it's an interesting pairing and it was fun to try a color combo that I wouldn't normally go for. What would YOU use as a base for Trisha?

Shimmer Wendy

One of my favorite glitter layerings in recent memory has got to be pairing Shimmer Wendy--an orange, purple and blue glitterbomb--with Pure Nail Lacquer Sunny Disposition, a very interesting and unique shade of green. I've been looking for the perfect base to wear Wendy with and in my eyes, these two are made for each other!

This is one coat of Wendy over two(?) of Sunny Disposition. Wendy's formula is excellent and didn't give me any problems. I'm extremely pleased with how this combo turned out and I really love all of the fun colors it has! I've mentioned several times on here before that orange and blue is one of my favorite color combinations and when you throw in some purple, green and then make it all sparkly too boot, that certainly doesn't hurt! ;)

You can purchase Shimmer from their website or on Etsy.

Twinsie Tuesday: Shimmer Adrienne

This week's Twinsie Tuesday theme was to show a good transitional polish that bridges the gap from summer to fall. Sparkle fiend that I am, I wear glitter year-round and look for any excuse to play with some new sparklies, so glitter it was! :) For my transitional polish, I chose Shimmer Adrienne, a mix of blue, gold and silver glitter. I was trying to come up with a color that I don't tie with any particular season and one of the ones that came to mind was blue. It's a great transitional shade--whether it's bright, bold neon blue for summer or a rich sapphire for fall, it works either way. Metallics, meanwhile, are truly timeless and work for any season, so the gold and silver accents in Adrienne seemed like they would be a good fit too.

Blue and orange is one of my all-time favorite color combinations, so I used Pure Nail Lacquer Fiesta, an orange creme, for my base. Plus, depending on the time of year, orange can either make me think or citrus or fall leaves and pumpkins!

I suppose technically this is a transitional combo rather than a single polish--although Adrienne can be built up so that it is opaque enough to wear alone--but I really like these two together! Hopefully it isn't considered cheating to pick two. :p I came really close to choosing a red for this challenge, because you can never go wrong with reds, but I'm thrilled with how this combination turned out.

Do you take the season into consideration when you pick your polish or do you wear whatever you want year-round? I mostly pick based off what I'm feeling that day, although I do tend to gravitate more toward, say, pastels in spring and jewel tones in winter than I might during other times of year. Be sure to take a look at what my Twinsies picked for their transitional polishes today!

Twinsie Tuesday: Cervical Cancer Awareness Mani

I believe this is our first time doing any type of awareness mani for TT, but as women, cervical cancer has the potential to impact all of our lives. I know many women who have fought against cervical cancer, PCOS and other related conditions. I think it's so important for all of us to remain educated about prevention, screening methods and the many different resources out there that offer information and support. There's a bit more information included at the end of this post if you are interested.

As for my mani, teal is the color for cervical cancer awareness, so I layered two coats of Shimmer Jasmine over Wet N Wild Teal Or No Teal. Jasmine is a teal glitterbomb with multicolored glitter pieces interspersed throughout and Teal Or No Teal is teal (unsurprisingly) with gold microshimmer. Their shades of teal actually wound up being an almost exact match for one another.

As the month of January brings cervical cancer into focus, it’s time to increase public understanding of the disease, including its prevalence, approaches to screening and prevention, treatment options, and resources that offer updated cervical cancer information throughout the year.
Each year in the United States, more than 11,000 women are diagnosed with cervical cancer and approximately 4,000 die of the disease. While certain types of the human papillomavirus (HPV) are linked to cervical cancer, vaccines such as Gardasil® and Cervarix™ are designed to prevent infection with high-risk types of HPV and have the potential to greatly reduce the occurrence of cervical cancer.

Shimmer Nichole

Shimmer Nichole is a red, blue and silver holographic glitterbomb. With its patriotic colors, Nichole would make for a perfect 4th of July mani, but I think it has a lot of versatility to it too, depending on what base you pair it with. I went for Rainbow Honey Gilded Angel, a warm-toned gold chrome with scattered holo. I feel like this combo has kind of a Wonder Woman vibe, which the nerd in me totally loves.

 *sings* Wonder Woman!

Nichole's formula is extremely easy to work with. I used two coats here. I enjoy Shimmer polishes a lot and Nichole is no exception. I love how each polish has several different colors in it, which makes the layering possibilities virtually limitless! You can purchase Shimmer from the brand's Etsy shop.

Shimmer Tammy

Shimmer Tammy is a mix of gold, silver and purple glitter. She's the first Shimmer polish I've ever tried and I have to say, I'm impressed. The mix of glitters and colors here is very complex and Tammy has a beautifully textured look to her. This is two coats of Tammy over OPI Tomorrow Never Dies.

I absolutely adore this combo. Purple and gold always say royalty to me! You know me, I gotta have my glitz, glitter and glamour. ;) I'd love to try Tammy over a red shimmer next so I can bring out the purple glitter a bit more. I'm thinking OPI The Spy Who Loved Me.

You can purchase Shimmer from the brand's Etsy shop.
