It wouldn't be a New Year's mani without glitter and I figure there's no better choice than Lynderella New Year's Eve Eve! This is a rainbow explosion of glitter in all shapes and sizes that brings to mind the gallons of confetti that will be falling in Times Square tonight.
I layered two coats over Wet N Wild Break The Ice, a pearly white shimmer. I thought it was the perfect base because it lets the colorful glitters stand out while still adding some sparkle of its own.
New Year's Eve Eve didn't have any notable formula issues. Like any glitter polish of this type, you'll get some large pieces that need to be guided away from the free edge of the nail, but otherwise this has a nice 'n easy formula.
I absolutely love this mani and how it looks like a little party on my nails! A big thanks to my buddy (and one-time Twinsie Tuesday member) Tara for gifting it to me!
What's on your nails tonight? Any fun New Year's plans? I'm eating tacos and watching "Archer" with my boyfriend. My kind of night. :)

Twinsie Tuesday: Blobbicure
I'm pretty hopeless at nail art, but I've been dying to try a
blobbicure! I tend to fare okay with more abstract nail art techniques, because then
it doesn't matter as much if everything doesn't come out perfectly. :)
Now, as I've mentioned a couple times on here, one of my not-so-guilty pleasures is professional wrestling and last week one of the all-time greats, Dusty Rhodes a.k.a. "The American Dream," passed away. When he wrestled in WWE, Dusty's ring gear was black with yellow polka dots, so I used his colors as inspiration for my blobbicure.
For reference, here's Dusty in his signature black and yellow:
And then here is the blobbicure I created using Wet N Wild Black Creme and Deborah Lippmann Walking On Sunshine:
This is my second time doing a blobbicure; I did one last week that I haven't posted yet. But for just a second try, I think this came out really well and I'm super proud of it! I absolutely love how the yellow pops! The blobs didn't get as distorted as they did for my first blobbicure, but I was playing around with some different techniques this time, so that's probably to blame.
Have you tried doing a blobbicure? They're actually pretty simple and fun! It's not often I find a nail art technique I can pull off, but this is one I had a really good time doing!
Hope you enjoyed my little tribute nails today. Be sure to take a look at what my Twinsies are up to!

Twinsie Tuesday: Grunge Mani
I'll admit that I totally had to Google this week's Twinsie Tuesday theme because I wasn't sure what a grunge mani was. But that's part of what TT is all about is introducing us to things we otherwise might never try or even know about, right?
If, like me, you are unfamiliar with grunge manis, how they work is that you start with a base color and then thoroughly wipe down your polish brush before streaking another color over top of it. You can layer as many colors as you like and the intent is to create a distressed or grungy look--almost like a shatter-type effect without the shatter polish. Hopefully I did an okay job of explaining that...? I feel like my description sucks but I can't think of another way to explain how you do this technique. It's easier to show than tell.
So anyways, for my grunge mani, I used Illamasqua Scorch as my white base then streaked on Spoiled by Wet N Wild Did I Dye It Too Blonde?, China Glaze Sun Of A Peach, China Glaze Pool Party and Rimmel Black Satin (which came out kinda weirdly brown-looking with this mani). I wasn't quite sure what colors to use, since this is my first time doing a grunge mani, but I knew I wanted to use some neons to really emphasize the color contrast. The color palette I used turned out to be a little 90s roller rink-esque but I am totally okay with that, hahaha.
I'm really bummed that I broke a nail Monday afternoon, forcing me to chop down my nails to nubbins, because I think this would be an especially cool-looking design on long nails. But this is the first break I've had in ages so I can't complain too much
This mani was a ton of fun to do and it's actually a super easy technique! This is one of only a few Twinsie Tuesday nail art themes that didn't involve a bunch of botched attempts and swearing on my part. I'd like to try doing another grunge mani sometime soon and I'm looking forward to seeing if my Twinsies enjoyed this challenge as much as I did!

Twinsie Tuesday: Lana Del Rey "Born To Die" Manicure
Worst. Twinsie. Ever. Sorry for the super late post today, everyone! Let's get to it, shall we?
This week's Twinsie Tuesday theme was to do a mani from a Youtube tutorial video. I am a huge fan of singer Lana Del Rey, so I used a tutorial by user kattiology to help me try and recreate Lana's nails from the music video for her song "Born To Die." In the video, Lana is sporting a gorgeous mani with a milky nude base and gold and red chevron tips.
I used Wet N Wild 2% Milk for my base, Essie Good As Gold for my gold and Revlon Red as my red. I was able to do the design on both hands, so it was fun to wear this as a full manicure and I think I'll keep it on for a few days, even if it doesn't look quite perfect.
The hardest part of this mani for me was shaping the gold chevrons; it's tough to get them centered and looking even on both sides. Layering the red over the top of the gold was easy--you just have to follow the lines you created with the gold--but actually trying to draw those straight lines with the gold was tricky. I swear, nothing gives me more nail art anxiety than trying to draw a friggin' straight line!
That being said, I'm pretty pleased with how this turned out. I don't purport to be a good (or even passable) nail artist, so anytime I attempt an "artsy" mani and come up with something that isn't an utter, embarrassing failure, I consider that a victory!

Wet N Wild 24 Carats
I'm making a real effort to work through my untrieds and sometimes this means coming across polishes that have sat unused for a shamefully long time. This is the case of Wet N Wild 24 Carats, a clear polish with gold microglitter and gold and orange bar glitter that was originally released as part of the Ice Baby Collection, all the way back in the winter of 2011. I usually have terrible luck finding the limited edition Wet N Wild displays at my local drugstores, but this was one rare instance where I was fortunate enough to stumble across one.
Here's one coat of 24 Carats over Adore Blushing Bride!
Wet N Wild re-released the Ice Baby polishes at Walgreens, but the new version of 24 Carats looks absolutely nothing like the original. The new 24 Carats is a sparkling gold base with orange glitter. Several of the other Ice Baby polishes appear to have been changed as well, which is really frustrating and disappointing for those who weren't able to track down these polishes (you know how WnW limited edition collections are...) the first time around. I really wish polish companies wouldn't play this name game!

Twinsie Tuesday: Inspired By Another Blogger
This week's Twinsie Tuesday challenged us to come up with a mani inspired by another blogger. Of course, there are so many amazing nail bloggers out there that I had a lot of source material to choose from! But as I was trying to come up with some ideas, I remembered this awesome mani I'd seen on Amy from I'm Feeling Nail-Venturous a while back. I was struck by how bright and fun it was and always wanted to try and replicate it, so this challenge seemed like the perfect opportunity to finally do it!
Amy's mani is a jelly sandwich of Spoiled by Wet N Wild Did I Dye It Too Blonde? and Deborah Lippmann Happy Birthday. For my mani, I also used Did I Dye It Too Blonde? (over Illamasqua Scorch, a white creme, for my base) and then substituted OPI Rainbow Connection for Happy Birthday. I think it turned out to be a really eye-catching summer look, although probably not a mani that will suit everyone's tastes. This is definitely a combination that will get your nails noticed!
Amy's original mani didn't use a white base, but I used one to help amp up the base color and also because my bottle of Did I Dye It Too Blonde? has a seriously gnarly formula plus some crooked brush bristles, so it's a pain in the butt to work with. I'm kinda bummed that the white base took away some of the squishiness that the original mani has, but hopefully the inspiration from Amy's mani still comes across!
I can't wait to see which bloggers and manis my fellow Twinsies used for their inspirations today! Do you ever try to replicate looks you see on nail blogs?

Wet N Wild Coverall Cream Foundation & Pressed Powder: Review & Swatches
I'll admit, I am a total foundation snob. But after reading several raves for the new Wet N Wild Coverall foundation line, I decided to give it a shot in hopes of finding a most cost-effective alternative to some of the mid-range foundations, like MAC or Kat Von D, that I normally use. I picked up both the Coverall Cream Foundation and Pressed Powder in the shade Fair/Light. I'm NW20 and that seemed to be a good color match for me.
I'm a big Wet N Wild fan in general, so I had high hopes these two products would live up the brand's reputation of delivering quality cosmetics at affordable prices. So how did they fare? Well, let's start with the cream foundation!
Cream Foundation
The cream foundation is packaged in a tube that holds one ounce of product, so you're getting a nice amount of foundation for the price. I paid about three dollars. The hole in the tube is a bit larger than the norm, so I do have to be careful not to squeeze out too much, but otherwise, I can't complain about the packaging. I like that it comes in a tube so everything is hygienic and it's easy to travel with too.
WnW describes this foundation as full coverage, but I'd say it's more medium-buildable. You can easily layer it as desired. It feels a bit thick coming out of the tube, but it doesn't apply that way. I usually apply two coats, using my fingers, but I've found a brush works well with this foundation too. It covers redness, scarring and blemishes beautifully, without looking or feeling heavy. You can layer to your heart's content without worrying about caking. Blemishes may need a little dabble of concealer, but after that (and some powder, of course), I'm good to go.
I'd describe the finish as semi-matte. It doesn't have any luminosity to it, but it also doesn't have the flat, porcelain finish a true matte foundation would. It just looks nice and natural.
The oil control is pretty good. With just the Coverall powder on top of the cream, I can go about four hours before I start to feel greasy and need to blot. By the eight-hour mark, I need to re-apply the Coverall powder to keep my face from looking super shiny and the cream from sliding off. But I'd still say that's fairly impressive. With an additional mattifying powder on top (like Urban Decay De-Slick or any other translucent oil control powder), I stay shine-free a few hours longer and I never get to that "melt-y" stage where imperfections like blemishes start to come through.
Overall, I'm completely blown away by this product. It has completely changed my mind about drugstore foundations. It's not quite as good as some of the mid-range foundations I've tried, but at this price, the difference seems pretty darn negligible to me. For once, I like something as much as my wallet does! If you want a quality foundation at an awesome price, definitely check out the Coverall Cream Foundation. It's the best drugstore liquid foundation I've ever tried! Way to go, Wet N Wild!
Pressed Powder
Now, unfortunately, I'm not as impressed with the powder as I am with the cream. It's not a terrible product, but it isn't the game-changer that the cream foundation was for me. It makes a nice companion for the cream though, which is mainly what I wanted it for. Plus I got this as part of a BOGO 1/2 off sale with the cream foundation, so it only cost about a buck.
The powder comes with a sponge, but no mirror. I understand that ditching the mirror probably helped keep the price point down, but it would have been nice to have a little one inside for touch-ups.
To me, anything that has "Coverall" in the title should provide full or at least buildable coverage, but I found this to be more sheer than the cream. I'd classify it as sheer to medium coverage. On top of the cream though, it makes a nice setting powder and provides a little extra coverage to even things out.
The texture is on the dry side--not chalky, per say, but it could stand to be a bit creamier. I think any skin type could enjoy the cream foundation, but the powder may not be the best choice for dry-skinned girls. It can accentuate any flaky areas if you're not careful. If you're oily-skinned like me though, I think you'll find it makes for an adequate setting powder. It has a natural finish--no shimmer or sparkle.
Overall, it's an okay powder. It's not amazing, but it's not bad either. Like the cream, it has a very accessible price point, but unlike the cream, I don't think I'll be repurchasing the powder. For the price, it's a nice add-on for the cream, but nothing I'd say you need to go out and buy right this second.

A swipe of the powder applied with the included sponge. It matches my arm really well, so it was hard to pick up on camera.

Twinsie Tuesday: Polka Dot Mani
This week for Twinsie Tuesday, we had a choice: polka dots or stripes. So I decided to do my first-ever polka dot mani for this challenge! I layered Spoiled by Wet N Wild Did I Dye It Too Blonde? over Sally Hansen White On for my base. (You can never, ever wear Did I Dye It Too Blonde? alone--just check out those swatches to see the reason why I once called it the ugliest polish ever. But it looks much better over white!) Then I used a black Sally Hansen nail art pen to make my dots.
I'm really happy with how this turned out! Yes, nail art I did that I actually like--I'm shocked! The nice part about dot manis is that your dots don't have to be completely perfect to create the overall effect. There's a fine line between mistake and "abstract," you know. ;)

Wet N Wild Teal Or No Teal
Wet N Wild Teal Or No Teal (ugh, that name pains me) is a teal shimmer. This is not to be confused with another WnW polish, the similarly named Teal of Fortune. Yes, the teal/TV pun idea was such a goldmine that they did it twice. *sigh* Name aside, this really is a lovely teal. It's part of WnW's permanent line, so no roving from drugstore to drugstore to hunt this baby down.
The formula is on the runny side and can get brushstroke-y if you're not careful. I used three coats here. Teal Or No Teal has this gorgeous glow to it. It's a very mermaid-esque kind of teal, if you know what I mean. Any teal lover is sure to enjoy this one!

Twinsie Tuesday: Cervical Cancer Awareness Mani
I believe this is our first time doing any type of awareness mani for TT, but as women, cervical cancer has the potential to impact all of our lives. I know many women who have fought against cervical cancer, PCOS and other related conditions. I think it's so important for all of us to remain educated about prevention, screening methods and the many different resources out there that offer information and support. There's a bit more information included at the end of this post if you are interested.
As for my mani, teal is the color for cervical cancer awareness, so I layered two coats of Shimmer Jasmine over Wet N Wild Teal Or No Teal. Jasmine is a teal glitterbomb with multicolored glitter pieces interspersed throughout and Teal Or No Teal is teal (unsurprisingly) with gold microshimmer. Their shades of teal actually wound up being an almost exact match for one another.

As
the month of January brings cervical cancer into focus, it’s time to
increase public understanding of the disease, including its prevalence,
approaches to screening and prevention, treatment options, and resources
that offer updated cervical cancer information throughout the year.
Each
year in the United States, more than 11,000 women are diagnosed with
cervical cancer and approximately 4,000 die of the disease. While
certain types of the human papillomavirus (HPV) are linked to cervical
cancer, vaccines such as Gardasil® and Cervarix™ are designed to prevent
infection with high-risk types of HPV and have the potential to greatly
reduce the occurrence of cervical cancer.

Twinsie Tuesday: Canadian's Choice
Did you know two of our wonderful Twinsies are Canadian? Yes, Ash and Anne rep the Great White North in our little group and we honored them with this week's theme: Canadian's Choice! For this challenge, we were randomly divided up into two groups--Team Ash and Team Anne--and given a top secret theme from our fabulous Canuck leader. I was on Team Anne, where our theme was to do a mani inspired by Canada's famous woodlands!
You know that nail art and I don't exactly go together, but I tried to push myself for this one. My apologies in advance to the nation of Canada. Here's the end result:
It ain't art, but I really did my best! It could have been worse. On my thumb, I did a maple leaf (vaguely) like the one on the Canadian flag. My pointer finger has some little fish on it to represent rivers. My favorite nail has got to be my middle finger (probably because I didn't attempt any wonky nail art for it) where I used Rainbow Honey Sakura Matsuri to mimic the look of a meadow.
My ring finger has a little pawprint on it to represent all the woodland critters. Unfortunately the black bled when I was doing the toes of the pawprint, so the end result was a bit wonky. But it's still worlds better than the design I originally drew on my ring finger: a beaver that looked like the spawn of Satan. It was super busted-looking, so I took it off and put the pawprint in its place.
Then for my pinky nail, I used Butter London Scuppered because it looked autumnal and kind of "woodsy" to me. This is such a gorgeous polish and I am dying to wear it as a full mani!
So that's my Canadian woodlands mani. We have many much more talented nail artists than myself in TT, so be sure to check out the rest of Team Anne's take on the woodlands and find out what Team Ash was up to!

Adventures in Zooey Deschanel Nail Art
I have a confession to make: I am an awards show junkie. I watch the Oscars (my equivalent of the Superbowl), the Emmys and the Golden Globes every year. I really couldn't tell you what I love more: the gowns or the awards themselves. What girly girl hasn't thought about what she would wear if she was a star on the red carpet?
Okay, so I highly doubt I'll ever get to have my Fan Bingbing moment. *sigh* But I can try to capture a little bit of red carpet glamour on my nails with some help from another leading lady who's becoming very well known for her red carpet nail art.
Zooey is a modern style icon, so of course her nails have to look the part too, whether it's her adorable tuxedo nails at the Golden Globes or the retro TV design she sported at the Emmys this year.
Super cute, right? Zooey's look is pretty easy to replicate, even for a nail art newbie like me! I followed along with the steps celeb manicurist Tom Bachik did on Zooey's nails for the Emmys to create my own version of her mani. Here's how it all went down...
1. Start with a thin layer of a bright yellow polish. I used Wet N Wild Art Crime, but any yellow will work just fine. Don't worry about opacity or if it doesn't look completely perfect, because we're just using it as a base.
2. Next layer one coat of a soft pastel peach, like L'Oreal Sweet Nothings that I used here, to soften the yellow. The way my camera captured this step makes my nails look way too yellow compared to how they really were, so I left a pic out for this step, but the look we're going for is a muted yellow. Your nails should not look completely peach, just softened.
3. On your thumb, make a small square in the center of your nail using a silver glitter. I went with OPI Crown Me Already! here.
4. Wait a few minutes for everything to dry, then outline your glitter square using a black nail art pen. I used a Sally Hansen one for my mani. Remember to round the corners on your outline to really get that retro look! Don't forget to draw in the rest of the details--antenna and TV stand legs--with your black nail art pen too. For the TV knobs, Zooey's manicure had Swarovski crystals, but I used a silver Sally Hansen nail art pen for my version.
6. The rest of Zooey's nails were spangled with Swarovski crystals here and there, so I dabbled Crown Me Already! on my nails to mimic the effect.
Ta-da! Okay, so my version isn't anywhere near as glamorous as Zooey's but this is pretty advanced nail art by my standards! I'm proud of myself for sticking with it, even when I had one of those inevitable "OMFG what have I done?!" moments. (*ahem* shaping the TV corners) Hopefully I didn't shame her gorgeous manicure too much with my attempt!
Hint: This. I would want to look like this. In case you were wondering, this is Chinese actress Fan Bingbing looking ten million kinds of fierce on the RC. Basically, I would wear anything that Fan Bingbing would wear.

What do you think of Zooey's style? Have you ever tried to replicate a celeb manicure?
Disclosure: Sweet Nothings was provided to me by PR/manufacturer for this tutorial. This in no way alters or influences the content of this post. All other polishes were purchased by me. For more information, please see my disclosure policy.

Twinsie Tuesday: Copycat Mani
This week's Twinsie Tuesday theme is as especially cool one: copycat mani. The idea was that we would each be secretly paired up with another Twinsie and then we'd try to duplicate a mani from their blog. Fun, right?
Well I was paired with the absolutely wonderful Nory from Fierce Makeup and Nails! Fun fact: In addition to being my copycat Twinsie, Nory and I also share the same birthday! I've never known anyone who has the same birthday as me, so I think that's pretty cool. We also have the same favorite candy bar: Hershey's Cookies n Cream, which brings me to my copycat mani.
A few months back, Nory did an awesome Cookies n Cream-inspired mani using a jelly sandwich of Wet N Wild 2% Milk and Coverband Sticks 'n Stones. I already had Sticks 'n Stones and I tracked down 2% Milk so I could replicate Nory's look exactly. This is a copycat mani in more ways than once since Sticks 'n Stones is probably the most famous of all the Lynnderella Connect The Dots look-alikes out there.
Check out Nory's original mani HERE and then take a look at my version below!
I absolutely love Sticks n Stones and it's a polish that instantly makes me think of Nory, because she also made me a lovely pair of polish earrings with Sticks n Stones layered over Essie Cascade Cool. If memory serves, Nory herself has a matching ring. :) Look how cute they are!
I had a lot of fun replicating Nory's look for this challenge and I'm really excited to see who everyone else got paired up with! Check out all the other Twinsie Tuesday blogs below!

Spoiled by Wet N Wild Did I Dye It Too Blonde?
Recently I've been wanting to try out a neon yellow. Since I wasn't sure how the color would look on me, I opted for an inexpensive shade, Spoiled by Wet N Wild Did I Dye It Too Blonde?, so that even if it sucked, at least I wasn't out too much cash. Well it turns out the only thing worse than how this polish looks on me is what a nightmare it was to apply.
Warning: This polish looks ridiculously terrible on me and I'm embarassed to even post swatches of it. Forgive me. The horror, the horror...
I am ashamed of how horrific this polish looks on me but I went through polish hell to apply it so dammit, I'm at least going to get some swatches out of it. Needless to say, I took this off almost immediately after taking pictures.
The formula on this polish was absolutely dreadful. It's thick and extremely goopy, like trying to spread glue across your nails. I also had to wait longer than usual between coats (I did four total), otherwise polish would just glob onto the nail. I find the Spoiled brushes to be too wide for my taste, but more irritatingly, several of the brushes I've used have quality control issues like splayed or uneven hairs. This brush even shed three hairs onto my nails just during the course of this mani.
Wet N Wild's other polishes and cosmetics are generally excellent and prove that just because something is inexpensive doesn't mean it can't be a quality product. But sadly Did I Dye It Too Blonde? doesn't measure up. At all. In fact, this is officially my new least favorite polish in my stash. (Congratulations, OPI Gouda Gouda Two Shoes! You've been replaced--by a longshot!) If you're looking for a highlighter yellow, I suggest spending an extra couple bucks on China Glaze Celtic Sun or China Glaze Yellow Polka Dot Bikini instead.

New Wet N Wild Lipsticks: Swatches & Review
Today I’ve
got three new Wet N Wild lipsticks to share with you all. Two, Dollhouse Pink
and 24 Carrot Gold, are from the Mega Last line, while the third, Salsa Lessons,
is from the MegaShield line.
Let’s kick
things off with Dollhouse Pink, a bright blue-based pink. I love me some hot
pink lipstick! Dollhouse Pink’s texture is a lot like MAC’s satin lipsticks.
Next up is
24 Carrot Gold, an orange-based coral. This color looks so rich and juicy. I
love it!
Last but not
least is Salsa Lessons, an orange-based red. This is supposedly very similar to
MAC Scarlet Ibis from the Iris Apfel Collection, albeit with a glossier finish.
Unlike the Mega Last lipsticks, the MegaShield line has SPF 15. Salsa Lessons
was the smoothest and most moisturizing of the three.
The
packaging on these isn’t going to win any beauty contests. It’s functional but
nothing special to look at—just a black plastic tube. However, the no frills
packaging is likely part of the reason Wet N Wild is able to sell these at such
a low price.
Although the packaging isn't exactly expensive-looking, thankfully the lipsticks themselves do not perform like cheap products. In fact, they
absolutely blew me away. They’re creamy, pigmented and non-drying. These are
extremely comparable to many of the high-end lipsticks I own. They deliver good wear
and even leave behind a bit of a stain afterwards.
I’m
incredibly impressed by all three of these. At $1.99 for the Mega Last lipsticks and $2.99
for MegaShield, these are some excellent, extremely affordable lipsticks. They
make fabulous guilt-free treats to pop into your shopping cart next time you’re
at the grocery or drug store.
