Nicole by OPI Peas and Q's

Here's kind of an obscure NOPI for you--at least, it's not one I seem to see an awful lot of on the blogosphere. Peas and Q's came out a few years ago and I believe it was a Target-exclusive. It's a mint green creme with a touch of dinginess to it.

I love this color to pieces but there's one big problem: the formula is honestly one of the worst I've ever used. I think I've got a dud bottle or something because this is just bad. It's incredibly streaky but yet somehow also very thick, like trying to spread glue on your nails. I used four coats here and it was more or less an ass-ache the whole way through. If the formula wasn't so dreadful this would easily be one of my go-to colors but I guess it just wasn't meant to be. Such a shame. I still like to wear this every now and again because I enjoy the color so much, just not the process of getting it on my nails. :p
What's the worst polish you've ever used in terms of formula? I'd say this one and OPI Austin-tatious Turquoise are right up there with the worst for me, but I love the colors enough to put up with their less than stellar formulas. Are you willing to overlook bad formula if you like the end result or is bad formula a dealbreaker for you?

  1. That's too bad about the formula because that is a gorgeous green!

  2. @A Girl and Her Polish: Ack, I know, it's so frustrating that the formula on this is a complete flop. :-/ I'd probably wear this one to death if it wasn't such a pain to apply. Oh well...

  3. This color is great but that sucks about the formula! I really hate it when that happens. I think it's worth it sometimes when the colors are awesome.

  4. Agree with the other comments. The color is great! Almost looks like a jade color, and I woulda bought that in a heartbeat if the formula wasn't so sucky.

  5. Love the color - reminds me of Essie's Mint Candy Apple, which is one my absolute favorite colors! Too bad about the formula :( Sometimes Essie colors are a little streaky/thick, but I feel like it depends on the color. For colors like Mint Candy Apple, Lapiz of Luxury and Something Borrowed, I make it work because I like the color so much, haha.

  6. This looks so pretty!! Such a shame over the formula. >.<! There are a couple Nicole by O.P.I that were just so sheer that I couldn't stand it, so I gave them away.

  7. I've never seen this color! I really like it. I've had some troubles with NOPI's as well. I find the new brush waaay too bristly and it leaves streaks.

  8. Lovely colour! Probably the worst formula that I've tried are pastel China Glazes or OPIs, which sucks because they are so beautiful.

  9. @Melissa: Yeah, it's unfortunately inevitable you're going to come across crappy formulas every now and again.

    @Stacey: Definitely has kind of a jade look to it, you're right. I've only seen maybe one or two other swatches of this polish and I don't think they mentioned a problematic formula so maybe it's just my bottle? It might be worth doing some research on...

    @Elizabeth: I really need to get Mint Candy Apple at some point! I agree about the Essie formulas. I think overall they've improved a lot over the past couple years but some of their colors still tend to be streaky--it's always really pretty ones too! XD

    @Ashesela: I've got a couple super sheer NOPIs in my stash that I need to try again and decide if I wanna keep 'em or trade/gift them away. Their formulas are definitely a mixed bag.

    @Anne: NOPI definitely has some of the wonkiest brushes out there. A lot of them feel stiff to me and like you said, on the bristly side. At least this polish doesn't have the ironically named "Perfect Stroke" brush, because I honestly think those are just awful!

    @Nory: Thank you! :)

    @funkiichiicka: Definitely agree on the pastels, particularly China Glaze pastels. They are always streak city yet I'm still drawn to how cute they are!

  10. I totally agree that the formula is AWFUL! Omg. I tried this for the first time tonight and I was all WTF is going on with this nail polish? It's thin and streaky and patchy. I had to use 3 coats and even at that, it just looks bad. Top coat couldn't even save it :/ glad I'm not the only one who thinks the formula sucks. Color is pretty I have to admit.
