Review: Lush Prince Shaving Cream

I've been using Skintimate shave gel for years, but I always feel like I go through it really quickly, so I decided to try something new and check out Lush's Prince Shaving Cream. As you might have guessed by the name, Prince is intended for dudes, but that doesn't mean it won't work for us girls too!

Prince is filled with all kinds of softening and moisturizing ingredients to create a nice cushion for your blade and prevent razor burn and bumps. You've got cocoa butter, shea butter, rose water, flaxseed oil--all good stuff for a smooth, close shave. Prince also contains orange flower absolute and sweet orange oil, so it smells just like a fresh-picked orange. If you've ever used one of Lush's citrus-scented products in the past, then you know there's a huge difference between a product with artificial fruit fragrance in it and something that actually contains the real thing! It's a fresh, fruity scent, but not cloying or overly sweet--after all, this is a product for guys.

All of those wonderful butters and oils make for a shave that's as close as it is comfortable. My legs feel sooo smooth and soft after I use Prince! I can definitely feel and see a difference between this and regular shaving gel. The neat thing too is that once you're done shaving, you can rub any excess Prince into your legs to give them a nice mini conditioning treatment. I haven't had any issues with razor burn or bumps since I switched over to Prince. It is so rich that a little bit goes a long way. I've been using Prince for several months now and am only about halfway through my small container.

And that brings me to the one thing I don't 100% love about Prince: it clogs my razor. Prince's rich texture does an excellent job of banishing razor burn, but a couple times each shave, my razor gets gunked up and I have to blast it under the faucet or hit it against the side of the tub to clean out the blades. It's an annoyance, but I love the super smooth shave I get with Prince, so I put up with it. I used up my last can of regular shaving gel and I can't see myself going back! Prince is pricier than traditional shave gel but it also lasts me much, much longer and delivers a better shave, so I think it's worth the extra money!

  1. I love LUSH so I'll be excited to try out this cream. I also hate shaving cream bottles that are metal...it's nice that this one won't rust. And a little goes a long way? Yay! Also, try using a little nail brush to clean your razor out when it gets clogged?

    1. Yes, no more rust rings! I love it! And I am always shocked by how little of this cream I need to do both my legs--like, maybe a dime-sized dollop for each leg. That's a great idea for helping with razor clogs! I'll have to give that a try!

  2. Ooh this sounds like a great alternative to skintamate hehe. I've been using that for years too. Next time I get to go to LUSH, I'll have to check this out!

    1. I would have probably gone through 3 or 4 cans of Skintimate in the time it's taken me to use less than half of my small container of Prince. Prince is a bigger investment up-front, but it might actually save me a buck or two in the long run at this rate!

  3. Timmy just started using the Ambrosia shave cream, and he loves it. I don't think he'll go back to Gillette or whatever it was he was using. I haven't used shave cream for years and have just gotten by with soap, but I think I should change that habit. I was hesitant to try Lush's options since the containers seem so small, but if they really do last then I might go for it! I hate the stuff that comes in the cans since I know it will just live in the landfill forever. Maybe I will get one from Lush when I go there to binge on all their holiday products...

    1. One of my friend's just got Ambrosia for her bf and said he loves it too. I've thought about getting a thing of Prince for Mike, but he's rocking the beard, so all he really uses now is trimmers. I thought I would go through this container super fast, especially since I got the smaller one, but it has lasted a surprisingly long time! I'll sometimes shave with their Coconut & Almond Smoothie and that works fabulously too! I did a holiday binge, part one, a month or so ago and now I'm ready for more stuff!!
