Twinsie Tuesday: China Glaze Blue Sparrow

This week we're doing favorite color. I could go in two directions with this one. My favorite "real life" color is pink, but my favorite polish color is blue. But seeing as this blog is dedicated to all things polish, I went with the latter. I have a ton of blue polishes in my stash, as you would expect, and I decided to kick it old school this week with China Glaze Blue Sparrow, an electric blue jelly with silver microglitter.

Unfortunately an old school neon also means old school neon formula, so this one is definitely chalky and patchy. I used three coats but I could've done with a fourth due to the uneven application. It also dries ultra matte, so top coat is a necessity.

CG has come a long way with their neons since this one, but it's still a fun polish to revisit because the color itself is still outstanding. It's so vibrant and the shimmer is the cherry on top.

China Glaze House Of Colour (Spring 2016) Preview

Let's kick off the weekend with some preview pr0n, shall we? This day we'll be checking out China Glaze's upcoming spring collection, House of Colour.

I like the variety of colors we're getting in this collection. It's of course a lighter palette for spring, but it's not all pastel cremes like we see with so many spring collections. I don't see anything that gives me an immediate case of "WANT" but I am really intrigued by Moonlight The Night. As a side note, I also think it's time for us all to admit that China Glaze has now reached OPI levels on the bad pun scale.

We should be seeing this collection on shelves any day now, as CG is already talking about it on social media. What will you be getting? Which of the spring collections we've seen so far are you most excited for?

Twinsie Tuesday: China Glaze It's A Trap-eze!

Hey guys! It's been a minute, right? I know I've been an awful blogger lately, but I'm trying to get back in the swing of things. So what better way than Twinsie Tuesday? :)

This week we're doing manis inspired by our favorite foods. I looooooovvvveee eating, so this was a tough pick for me, hahahaha. But I decided to go with one of my very favorite desserts. Can you guess what it is from which polish I picked?

It's funfetti cake! I know, I know, it's not the most sophisticated choice, but I can't get enough funfetti, especially the frosting!

The polish is China Glaze It's A Trap-eze!, which I thought was the perfect representation since it's got a white base filled with multi-colored glitter. It's A Trap-eze! looked kinda messy with the first few layers, but it all came together nicely in the end. Most of my nails only needed three coats, but a couple needed four to even out some bald patches.

Please excuse the cut on my index finger. I nicked it at work last week and it's taking its sweet time healing. Flesh wounds aside, I hope you enjoyed today's post and that you'll check out my fellow Twinsies today too!

China Glaze Cheers Holiday 2015 Preview

Twinsie Tuesday: China Glaze Velvet Bow

We're doing nails inspired by our favorite movie this week! I dunno if I have a single all-time favorite, but if we're talking movies I love, Pulp Fiction is certainly up there.

In addition to being an awesome movie, Pulp Fiction also has an interesting place in nail polish history. The polish Uma Thurman wears in the movie, Chanel Vamp, was widely featured and discussed in beauty magazines. Vamp's rich, chocolate-y shade of burgundy was a trendsetting color at the time and perfectly fit the edgy style of Uma's character in the film, which was a huge hit. As a result, Vamp became an instant sellout and highly sought after by polish aficionados.

Vamp still exists in Chanel's polish line-up today, although the color itself has changed to include shimmer. (The classic Vamp color is now called Rouge Noir.) But I've got a good dupe for the original Vamp in China Glaze Velvet Bow, which was part of a Christmas collection a few years back.

The formula is a little sheer for such a dark color. I needed three coats for total opacity. This is a color where you want to be careful with your edges, because cleaning dark red out of your cuticles is a bitch and a half.

So yeah, nothing super fancy from me this week, but hopefully you enjoyed this little look back at polish history! I'm looking forward to seeing what everyone else did this week--and hopefully I'll get some good film recommendations in the process!

China Glaze Cabin Fever

This polish is magical. I can see why it took three different sightings of the CG Great Outdoors display for me to actually find this color! It's a gorgeous color-shifting shade that morphs from rusty red to bronze to green to gold. It changes to all the different colors of autumn leaves!

As with most duochromes, you have to conscientiously place your brushstrokes, but other than that, Cabin Fever is easy to apply. This is two coats.

I have to take my hats off to China Glaze on this one. The color shift is super strong and I love that you get so many beautiful fall colors in one polish. It takes on completely different personalities with each lighting change. If you ask me, it's not only the best polish of the Great Outdoors Collection, but the best duochrome polish from a mainstream brand in a long time. Like, remember the awesome that was the China Glaze's own New Bohemian Collection? Cabin Fever is just as good as those! Hey CG: more of this, please! :)

Twinsie Tuesday: Recreate Another Twinsie's Mani

This week, we were challenged to recreate one of our fellow Twinsies' manis. We could pick anyone and any mani we wanted. I did some looking and decided on a really cute mani done by Alaina from The Little Canvas!

I would like to preface this by saying that Alaina is a million times better at nail art than I will ever be. So while I am a big admirer of her manis, most of them are things I would never even attempt to try myself! But I really loved this mani of hers...

...and I thought it was something I could pull off. Here's my version:

I used the same base as Alaina, China Glaze Too Yacht To Handle. Then my pinky and pointer fingers are topped with OPI I'll Tinsel You In and my middle finger is Color Club Harp On It. Alaina drew the hearts on her ring fingers, but I cheated by fishing out heart glitter from Lynnderella Evermore.

I had a lot of fun doing this! I like searching my stash for the perfect polishes to recreate a look. I'm excited to see what manis everyone else picked! And please be sure to welcome our newest Twinsies, Alice and Sarah! :)

Twinsie Tuesday: China Glaze Lubu Heels

This week, we were challenged to show off some vampy nails. I decided on China Glaze Lubu Heels, a black base with red glitter. This is like Ruby Pumps' naughty older sister. I can't honestly say I like it better than Ruby a Pumps, which is an all-time classic in my eyes, but that's not to say it's without its own charms.

This took three coats in all, mostly to build up the opacity of the black base. If you used a black creme underneath, I'm sure you'd only need one coat of Lubu Heels to achieve this kind of look.

This polish offers such a great twist on basic black! I love when the light hits it and you see those little red sparks flare up. :)

Twinsie Tuesday: Inspired By A Flag

The Twinsies are back after our month-long hiatus with manis inspired by a flag! I put together a couple different glitters to create a mani inspired by the US stars and stripes. I'll basically use any excuse to wear star glitter. ;) It came out looking a little too "4th of July" for fall, but for what it is, I think it's pretty cute. I'd like to revisit the idea of glitter Skittles in the future.

China Glaze Ghouls' Night Out Preview

I gotta confess that I don't really care about Halloween now that I'm older, but I still like to have a little fun with my nails each October. I look forward to China Glaze's Halloween collections in particular, since they always bring something fun and colorful to the table.

This year, we're getting six new colors, as well as the traditional re-promote of Ghoulish Glow, CG's glow-in-the-dark topcoat. Check it out!

As fun as the glitters look, I think the cremes have me most excited! I love how intense they look. We don't usually see brights in a Halloween collection, so I like that CG did something a bit different here that's still in keeping with the traditional colors of the holiday.

China Glaze Wood You Wanna?

Hey all! Sorry about the lack of TT post this week. I was pretty sick the last few days and spent all of Monday in bed. It was miserable. But now I'm better and get to play with pretty polish again!

Speaking of, I am seriously lovin' on the new China Glaze Great Outdoors Collection. I swear I need at least half of the polishes from it! My local Sally had only two of the colors I wanted, but hey, that's better than none! So let's take a look at one of the many pretties from this collection!

Wood You Wanna? is an antiqued metallic taupe. This is a very rich and complex shade. There's a slight reddish undertone to it that just slays me. I wasn't planning on picking this one up originally but the swatches were to hard to resist! I think this is gonna be one of the sleeper hits from this collection.

The formula is excellent and super opaque. This is a one-coater!

What brands are going to get your polish money this fall? Once I manage to track down the remaining shades I want from Great Outdoors, I'll probably buy mostly indie stuff, although I am really looking forward to seeing swatches of Essie's fall collection!

China Glaze Desert Escape Preview

One summer collection per brand just isn't enough these days. Us polish addicts are always on the prowl for MORE! Luckily, China Glaze has got it covered this summer with a nice little June booster collection to keep us going until the big fall collections. Desert Escape features six new shades. Let's take a look!

Looks like a great summer-to-fall transitional collection. Nothing stands out as an instant must-buy for me, but I'll have my eye on Don't Desert Me and Meet Me In The Mirage.

First Look: China Glaze The Great Outdoors

So the size of the pictures isn't the best and we don't have any shade names, but I thought I'd share this little glimpse of what China Glaze has in store for us this fall! This isn't anything official, so there might be some changes in the works between now and then, but I'm liking what I see so far!

Nowadays everyone does a summer neon collection, but in my mind, China Glaze did it first. They've released neon collections for years! So leave it to CG to shake things up this year with neons that glow even brighter under a black light. I hate clubs (give me a good book and a mug of tea instead any day) but it's still a cool idea. The collection, Electric Nights, features nine cremes and three matte glitter topcoats, to create a splatter effect.

These puppies are slated to drop in April. I feel like I already have a lot of neons (plus Essie's look really promising this year) and as I mentioned, I won't get any use out of the black light function, but I might pick up a shade or two if there's a standout when I see these in person.Maybe the minis set and one of the glitters? We'll see!

Do you like the wave of neon polishes each summer or are you over it? I am all about brights, but now that there are soooo many neon collections, I gotta admit I could do with a little more variety sometimes.
