A Rhyming Dictionary Review & Swatches: Part Two

So after a bit of a break, I've got part two of my review of polishes from the indie line A Rhyming Dictionary! If you missed part one of my review last week, you can check it out HERE to learn more about the line and see additional swatches!

Kicking things off this time is Kaliko, a shredded topper with silver, black, white and purple bits. Sometimes these shredded polishes can have sharp edges that stick out but that wasn't the case with Kaliko! This is one coat over China Glaze Sweet Hook. I enjoyed this combo a lot and it reminded me of something that I couldn't quite put my finger on... Graffiti? Candy? Whatever it is, I like it!

Next up is The Foolish Owl, a collage of matte pink hexes and squares, white hearts, silver holo stars and black circles. I love the graphic effect the black circles create and the interesting contrast they provide to the sugary, sparkly pink elements in this polish. My motto is that circle glitter is always a good thing. This is two coats over China Glaze Spontaneous.

Then we have Kite Island, which has a rainbow of hexes in orange, blue, pink and magenta, plus white and emerald green squares. I love all the different colors in this one, so summer-y! Plus some of the hexes are holo, so you get a disco ball-like effect with tons of sparkle and shine! This is two coats of Barielle Blackened Bleu.

All three polishes had fantastic formulas and were a breeze to apply. The glitters are all mixed well, ensuring you get a nice variety of colors with each swipe across the nail. The polishes with larger pieces, like Foolish Owl, didn't require any fishing. One of the things I enjoyed most about trying these polishes was the sheer variety of shapes and colors in each bottle. You never knew what was going to pop out next!

A Rhyming Dictionary Review & Swatches: Part One

Hello all! I hope your week is off to a good start. I've been feeling a bit under the weather lately but luckily I have the day off today, so that means lots of resting up and Olympics-watching for me. I've got a bit of a cold coming on but nothing a little indie polish won't fix! ;)

Today we'll be checking out some of the latest polishes from A Rhyming Dictionary, an indie line inspired by the colorful characters of L. Frank Baum's popular Land of Oz series! While virtually everyone has seen the classic "Wizard of Oz" film, there are actually dozens of Oz books with a huge cast of creatures beyond what we all know from the movie. As someone who loves to read as much as I love to polish, I can't imagine a better inspiration for a line of polishes!

First up we have Quox, a hex-heavy glitterbomb with shades of blue, green, pink, red and purple. The variety of colors in Quox really opens it up to tons of different layering possibilities. You could wear it over just about anything and at least one of the glitter colors would be guaranteed to pop! Here it is over Essie Bikini So Teeny.

Next up we have The Shaggy Man, another glitter-filled beauty with green microglitter and hexes and squares in orange, red and green. A few of the larger hexes did curl a bit (thankfully no full-on taco action though) but I was impressed with how all of the squares laid completely flat. I used Butter London Bossy Boots as my base and I really liked this combo! It kind of reminds me of fruit salad, but I'm weird like that.

Last but not least is Prince Bobo of Boboland, a glitzy tribute to all things golden. You've got gold flakies, gold glitter pieces, holo gold hexes, gold bar glitters and then some holo silver squares for some extra bling! This polish is a versatile stunner that can pull elegant or glam, depending on what you want to layer it over. I've paired it with Deborah Lippmann Pseudo Silk Kimono here. I think these two create an appropriately regal vibe together. :)

All swatches are two coats. Aside from the occasional curling with Shaggy Man that I mentioned above, I had absolutely no application issues with these polishes. All three were a breeze to work with and the glitter pieces distributed evenly across the nail.
