Twinsie Tuesday: Why So Serious? Franken

Welcome to another Twinsie Tuesday! This week's theme is frankens! If you're not familiar with the term, a franken is a polish you make yourself from a mixture of other polishes in your collection. I must admit I am not a big frankener. I've only ever made two frankens, both of which were attempts to dupe Deborah Lippmann polishes. You may remember seeing them if you've been reading Nailed for a while. One is Barbie Puke and the other is the one I'm going to show you today for Twinsie Tuesday: Why So Serious? It's rainbow hex glitter in a black jelly base--essentially my version of Deborah Lippmann Forget You.

The recipe is insanely easy: Take a bottle of Milani Gems (or another of the 10,000 Deborah Lippmann Happy Birthday dupes) that's about 3/4 of the way full then pour in the black creme of your choice (I just used a 99-cent Wet N Wild one) until the bottle is full. Remember to leave room for when you put the brush back in though! Then just seal the bottle, shake it up and you're done! Simple, right? Cheap too! The whole franken cost me about five bucks to make.

(I'm sorry, I just had to use an adjective that went with the alliteration theme hahaha.)

My Ariel doll was one of my favorite toys as a little kid; I played with her so much that eventually both her legs fell off! I still played with her though haha. So please welcome Sarah!


Happy Thanksgiving, everybody!! Hope you're all having an amazing holiday:] I'm Sarah from See Sarah Swatch . First off, I want to say thank you to Chelsea for hosting me! Now the nail polish :] Today, I have for you "Under the Sea":

My inspiration for this was the movie, The Little Mermaid. I started adding blues into this bottle of green glitter polish I had from Forever 21, & I thought it looked like an ocean. So then I added some blue glitter, and eventually the name came to me, so I added some red glitter in there too, for Ariel's hair:] I'm a complete sucker for anything Disney, can you tell? hahaha.

My Deborah Lippmann Forget You Franken: Why So Serious?

A little while ago, I showed you my first attempt at frankening: a Deborah Lippmann Candy Shop copycat that I dubbed Barbie Puke (swatches HERE). I decided to use the remaining half of my bottle of Milani FX Gems left over from Barbie Puke to try and make a franken of another Deborah Lippmann polish, Forget You. I think it may have turned out even better than Barbie Puke! Introducing... Why So Serious?

Why So Serious? is a black jelly with multi-colored hexagon and round glitter. I used two coats for this manicure. Making this polish is so easy that it's not even funny. I used:

• Milani FX Gems (bottle around 60% full)
• Wet N Wild Black Creme

I poured Wet N Wild Black Creme into my Milani FX Gems bottle until it was filled. (If you try this yourself, remember to leave room for when you put the brush back in!) Then I shook it all up until the black polish mixed with the clear base of Milani FX Gems. Then you're done! Ridiculously easy, right? If a franken newbie like me can pull it off, then anyone can do it.

Why So Serious? squashed my lemming for Forget You, which was nowhere near as strong as my desire for Candy Shop. Why So Serious? is closer to Forget You than Barbie Puke is to Candy Shop, but I'm still proud of both my creations. Frankening is fun! Have you tried it before?

My Deborah Lippmann Candy Shop Franken: Barbie Puke

So I have been lusting after Deborah Lippmann Candy Shop for a loonnnnggg time, but as a college girl on a budget, I can't bring myself to spend the $42 on the trio set it comes in. I've seen a lot of girls who mixed their own versions of it and although I've never frankened anything before, I thought it looked easy enough and decided to give it a try! I chose my own recipe ingredients but I figured so long as I was following a franken concept I'd seen other people do, I couldn't mess it up too badly.

If you're not familiar with frankening, it's where you mix polishes together to make your own creation. I was kind of intimidated to try it but it's actually really fun! I have dubbed my Candy Shop franken Barbie Puke. Here's how she turned out!

Barbie Puke's formula was actually really great. I used two smooth, easy coats for these swatches. My ingredients for this particular franken were:

• Wet N Wild Lavender Creme (which, incidentally, is not lavender AT ALL, but a bright magenta)
• Sally Hansen White On
• Milani FX Gems (Deborah Lippmann Happy Birthday dupe)

I couldn't really tell you the exact amounts I used for most of these polishes; I just mixed them together until the color and consistency seemed right to me. To start, I mixed Lavender Creme with White On to make the color more candy pink than the original bright magenta of Lavender Creme alone. Then I added the mixture to a bottle of Milani FX Gems that was around one half to three quarters of the way full. I saved the rest of FX Gems to make another Deborah Lippmann dupe, a franken version of Forget You which I think turned out pretty well. I'm looking forward to sharing it with you later this week!

Overall, I spent around six bucks total and I made two frankens I'm quite happy with! They're not exact matches but considering they saved me almost 40 dollars, I think I did alright. Candy Shop has more glitter in it and the pink base is more of a jelly finish than my Barbie Puke version. Maybe, since I am clearly the best daughter ever, my parents will get me the real thing for Christmas! :) Hey, a girl can dream!
