Sinful Colors Pinky Glitter

Pinky Glitter: a hum-drum name for a pretty awesome polish. Pinky Glitter has a sheer light pink base packed with small and medium iridescent glitters. It makes for a very pretty, dainty-looking manicure. Couldn't you see a cartoon princess wearing something like this?

The only drawback to Pinky Glitter is how sheer it is. I think this is intended to be a layering polish, as it takes four coats on its own to reach semi-opacity. But at least it has a nice consistency to it, so build up, while time-consuming, isn't a complete ass-ache.

Pinky Glitter instantly became one of my all-time favorite Sinful Colors shades, so shout-out to Amanda for sending it my way! I'd love to try this over a neon pink next time I wear it.

Sinful Colors Sweet Dreams

When it comes to cheap beauty thrills, you can't get a much better bang for your buck than Sinful Colors. I usually wind up buying way too many of them whenever they have a 99-cent sale at Walgreens! At that price, how can you not?!

The Sinful Colors shade I'll be showing you today, Sweet Dreams, actually came from the ever-generous Amanda and it is a beauty! Sweet Dreams is an aqua blue glassfleck. I often say that China Glaze is my gold standard for glassflecks but damn if Sinful Colors doesn't give them a run for their money!

The formulas on Sinful Colors can be hit or miss in my experience, but I'm happy to say this one was spot on. This was two easy coats.

Unfortunately, I'm not super thrilled with how my swatches of this came out. They looked fine when I was taking pictures, so I went ahead and covered this polish with glitter (of course). But then when I looked at the swatches on my computer, they came out kinda crappy. My camera always has a really hard time with teals. They either make my hands look weirdly red on camera or the color photographs completely inaccurately. Ugh...

So I apologize if this isn't the best quality, but it is color accurate, at least! Yay! Sweet Dreams is too pretty not to try and share, so I hope you enjoyed taking a look at it with me. :)

Twinsie Tuesday: Marching Orders - Take 2

First thing's first for this week's Twinsie Tuesday post: We've got some brand new ladies joining our group--Amber, Heather and Róisín--so I want to give a big TT welcome to our newest Twinsies! :) I do hope you'll stop by their blogs and get to know these fabulous bloggers better, if you don't know them already!

This week's Twinsie Tuesday theme is a favorite of ours and one we've done before: Marching Orders! For this theme, we are randomly paired up with another Twinsie and we assign each other a mani challenge. It can be anything, from a specific design to a general inspiration, so it's a lot of fun since you never know what you're going to get!

For this go-around of Marching Orders, I was paired with the fabulous Maribeth of Obsessive Cosmetic Hoarders Unite!, who tasked me with doing a mani inspired by a food. I thought a fruit mani would be a fun idea to try out, so I did some looking around and came across this apple-inspired mani tutorial, which I used as my guide.

I'm extremely proud of how this turned out! I did this mani freehand, using a dotting tool for details like the stem, leaf and seeds. (Originally, I thought the seeds were supposed to be little cutesy cartoon eyes for the apple and didn't realize they were actually seeds until I was about halfway through this mani. *rolls eyes* I was having a blonde moment.) It was a lot of fun to do and wasn't nearly as hard as I thought it would be! Here's a complete list of all the polishes I used for this mani, in case you're curious:

OPI My Vampire Is Buff (base), Orly Green Apple (green part of apple--naturally), Lime Crime Crema de Limon (yellow part of apple), Illamasqua Scorch (shiny spot), OPI Suzi Loves Cowboys (apple stem and seeds), Sinful Colors Exotic Green (apple leaf)

Be sure to take a look at what all of my Twinsies are up to this week as well!

Sinful Colors Orange Cream

I am a sucker for a good creamsicle orange. I broke my no-buy to bring Sinful Colors Orange Cream home with me from Walgreen's the other day. I stopped in to get milk (and not-so-secretly hope they had SC's new Sugar Rush Collection on display) and I just could not resist this one. At only two bucks, I'm gonna cheat and say it doesn't count!

I didn't really see it in the bottle, but on the nail, Orange Cream has a pretty, subtle shimmer to it. It's  nice to have a polish with surprise shimmer for once, instead of the dreaded vanishing shimmer that can be so common with these lighter shades. The formula is on the streaky side, but still workable. I used three coats here.

This is a lovely polish, especially for spring. It's got that very appealing pastel softness that is so perfect for the season. I am so ready to be done with all this snow! I can't wait to wear all my bright polishes, strappy sandals and spring dresses.

St. Patrick's Day Nails: Sinful Colors Green Ocean

You didn't think I was going to pass up the chance to rock some green nails today, did you? ;) A few days ago I picked up Sinful Colors Green Ocean, a green flakie that only makes an appearance once a year in the Sinful Colors St. Patrick's Day displays. I layered two coats of Green Ocean over two coats of Orly Fresh, a neon green creme.

My friend Kaley layered her Green Ocean mani (We went hunting for the bottle together and both had success!) over black and it looked stunning. It brought out some of the blue-green duochrome in the flakies. My camera here only really picked up the blue end of the spectrum but trust me, this polish looks much more beautiful and complex in-person. I put mine over green just to fit a theme but next time I wear Green Ocean, I'm totally putting it over black!

The formula on Green Ocean is alright. It's thick and requires some placing of the larger mylar flakes, but it's not a huge hassle overall. Formula-wise, it could be better but it could be worse. The polish itself is ridiculously beautiful though--and only two dollars!

Are you sporting green nails today? Happy St. Patrick's Day to all of my wonderful readers! Have fun and be safe, everyone!

Revlon Carbonite

Last week I showed you Sally Hansen Barracuda, a dupe for Chanel Riva. Today I have yet another Chanel dupe for you! This one is Carbonite, Revlon's version of Chanel Graphite. This is not the first time Revlon has put out a color to match the latest buzzworthy Chanel shade; you may also recall Perplex, a dupe for Chanel Paradoxical and Black With Envy, their version of Chanel Black Pearl.

Graphite is a dark silver with some flecks of gold and a near-foil finish. While Carbonite doesn't have that subtle gold in it, it's still pretty darn close to Graphite.

(Revlon Carbonite, two coats)

Carbonite lacks some of the depth of color Graphite has, but I'd say they're definite dupes. And at just $4 for the Revlon, I really can't complain about whatever minute differences the two may have; they're close enough for me. :) I'm glad Revlon put this out because I was starting to waver on my decision not to buy Graphite. What can I say? Chanel makes some amazing colors for some not-so-amazing prices.

But since I can't leave well-enough alone, I decided to add a coat of gold glitter on top to try and mimic some of that extra warmth Graphite has. I think it turned out pretty well. Here's Carbonite with one coat of Sinful Colors All About You. (Sorry for the messiness around the edges! I was in a rush!)

Carbonite is a bit harder to find than your typical Revlon shade and people will likely be snapping this up since it's a known Chanel dupe. When I got mine at the store, it was on its own display shelf away from the rest of the Revlon. Keep your eyes open for this one!
