Twinsie Tuesday: Lush Lacquer Clowning Around

Twinsie Tuesday is channeling "the greatest show on Earth" this week with circus-inspired manis! I really wasn't up to muddling my way through some misguided attempts to make poorly drawn circus animals, so it was indie polish to the rescue! Lush Lacquer Clowning Around not only has a circus-related name, but the bold neon pops of blue, pink, orange, purple and lime green remind me of the colorful costumes and sets that help create the circus' festive atmosphere. At least, that's my story and I'm sticking to it. ;) Ironically enough, I have never liked clowns and I was terrified of them as a little kid. Clowning Around has a clear base, so here it is over Illamasqua Scorch, a white creme.

The formula on this polish was so-so. The base is a bit thick and matte neon pieces don't spread very evenly. I had to do a third coat to try and cover up some bald patches. I would suggest leaving extra time between coats, as I wound up with some little ripple marks on my middle and ring finger where some of the polish got pulled off a bit when I applied the next coat.

Lush Lacquer Blue Gypsy

Lush Lacquer Blue Gypsy is a baby blue base (say that five times fast) filled with blue, purple and orange matter hexes, black matte stars and large holographic pink circles. It's a really fun, whimsical mix of colors and shapes. I'm a big fan of the circle glitter in particular!

The glitters in Blue Gypsy distributed very well, but the base is pretty streaky. With some strategic brushwork, most of my nails looked okay after three coats but a few required four. One thing I do have to give some kudos to Lush Lacquer though is that their minis have full-size handles, making them much easier to apply.

Despite some formula hiccups, it's hard to resist a polish as adorable as Blue Gypsy. It reminds me of cotton candy confetti ice cream!

Twinsie Tuesday: Lush Lacquer Green Genie

This week's Twinsie Tuesday theme, TT Revisted, allows us to take another shot at a challenge or theme we particularly enjoyed. Other than our copycat and marching order challenges, we hardly ever get a chance to duplicate a theme in TT, so there were a lot of options to choose from! I decided to go with indie polish, because you know I can never get enough of all my indie sparklies. ;)

What this polish lacks in sparkle, it more than makes up for in fun: Lush Lacquer Green Genie, from the brand's Neon Collection, is a lime green base filled with a rainbow of matte neon hex glitters. A co-worker of mine told me this polish looks like ice cream and I really like that description!

I love how colorful this is! The base color is kinda different too. It's not something you see very often, especially mixed with glitter. The shade of green is just bright enough for a fun pop of color but not so bright that it overshadows all the neon pieces. I used three coats here and the formula is great.

I wanted to point out too that all of the Neon Collection polishes I ordered (check out Neon Lights HERE if you missed it) are minis. Normally, I despise minis, but Lush Lacquer's minis come with full-sized handles, which make them really easy to work with. Their shop always has deals going where you can pick your own minis, so I love that you can try out a bunch of polishes from the brand at an affordable price without having to deal with the annoyances of small mini handles. The bottles are still a bit too small to hold comfortably for swatches though, hence the bottle of basecoat I'm clutching in these shots. :)

Lush Lacquer Neon Lights

Lush Lacquer Neon Lights is a white base packed with all kinds of neon hex glitter goodness. There's an awesome rainbow of colors here: pink, orange, yellow and green. Perhaps this description won't make sense to anyone other than me, but the neon color scheme kind of reminds me of some of the splatter "graffiti" art (usually done in paint that glows under a black light) you'd see inside a roller rink in the 90s--and as a child of the 90s, I mean that in the most loving, flattering way possible. What I'm trying to say, basically, is that it's bright, it's cool and I love it!

The white base can be a touch streaky but otherwise the formula is solid. I used three coats here. This polish is just tons of fun. I'm really digging the matte neon glitter trend happening in the indie market right now. Lush Lacquer's whole Neon Collection is chock-full of all kinds of neon goodness, so definitely check it out if you're a fan too!
