I have been dreading this week's Twinsie Tuesday theme. I have never tried a ruffian mani before, mostly because I know I'd fail miserably at it. But I've developed a sense of humor about my complete ineptitude for all things nail art, so I figured it couldn't be any worse than stuff I've done before for our other TT nail art themes. (Translation: I couldn't figure out how to cheat my way out of this one.) So here we go! :)
I used OPI Goldeneye as my base and then layered my favorite black, Rimmel Black Satin, on top. I actually think this turned out pretty inoffensive, which is a hell of a lot better than I thought it would look. It's nothing special, but it's (hopefully) not vomit-inducing either. Yay!
I think the hardest part was getting the shape of the curve right with my layering polish and then trying to replicate that same shape on the rest of my nails. I wouldn't say I accomplished that, but I actually wore this out of the house, which is more than I can say for a lot of my nail art.
I know several of my other Twinsies have mentioned already that this was not their favorite challenge either. I'm curious to see what everyone came up with though!

DeleteI was looking all through my collection trying to find gold undies and this would've been perfect! Very pretty combo!
ReplyDeleteThanks Brandi! I spent forever debating which gold to use. It came down to Goldeneye or Glitzerland, so I decided to mix things up a bit since Glitzerland is always my go-to gold. :)
DeleteSo pretty!!! :D
ReplyDeleteThis looks great! I almost did a black and gold combo, too...these polishes look great together!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Jamie! The first pic I ever saw of a ruffian was a black and gold combo, so I'd always had it in my head that if I had to do one, those are the colors I'd use. I think they look cool together!
DeleteThis is such an awesomely classic combination--I love the black and gold together!
ReplyDeleteThanks Elizabeth! I love black and gold. I think it's a great mix of edgy and classic all in one. :)
DeleteGreat combo! It looks wonderful!
ReplyDeleteThanks Cordia!
DeleteI love the gold and black combo!
ReplyDeleteThanks Meredith!
DeleteI love the gold and black!! LOL @ not being able to cheat your way out of it. This was a tough one for me too.
ReplyDeleteThanks Marisa! I tried to come up with some way to shortcut this one, but I don't think there is a way to cheat, sadly.
DeleteLove the color combo! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Nory!
DeleteGreat first try! Very classy color choices.
ReplyDeleteThanks Amanda! You know me--my nail art is always classy. ;)
DeleteLol, you funny girl <3 I hate this theme also, but your color choices are great and you did well for your first time!
ReplyDeleteThanks Tara! I don't think my hand is steady enough to do a ruffian. I like them on others, but I'm not so sure it's something I can personally pull off. :)
DeleteEven though you dreaded this, it came out fantastic! I was also trying to cheat my way out of this, haha.
ReplyDeleteThanks Katherine! I wish there was some sort of cheat or trick to a ruffian, but I couldn't find any!
