Truth time: My original swatches of Essie Ballet Slippers (which I shall not link to here as a courtesy to you, dear reader) were not the best. My cuticles were looking rough and pretty much the only thing I was happy with about the original post was that I got the opportunity to share one of my favorite pieces of nail trivia: This is apparently the only polish Queen Elizabeth wears--since 1989, in fact! Cute, right?
So since I was rocking Ballet Slippers as the base for my OPI The Lights of Emerald City mani last week, I figured I'd snap a few quick pics for a re-swatch and give the ol' gal the royal treatment she so justly deserves. :)
I can see why this polish has become such a classic. I am not a big fan of sheers, but Ballet Slippers is one I really love, especially since you can build it up to opacity without an insane number of coats. What you see above is three coats.
Ballet Slippers looks almost nude on me (blame the fact that I am pale and Irish as the day is long), but it's more of a milky pink on those whose skin has seen sunlight. It makes a great base for layering or can totally be worn alone for when you want something elegant and lady-like. Clearly Her Majesty has excellent taste! ;)
This is so soft and pretty, Chelsea! And you're right, very ladylike and elegant too. It would probably be a light nude on me as well--my skin is not a friend of the sunlight either. ;)
ReplyDeleteThanks Elizabeth! Good to know I'm not the only sunlight-challenged nail blogger out there haha. It really is lovely either way though--nude or pink!
DeleteGorgeous!! :D

DeleteI love how soft and dreamy this polish is! It's really pretty.
ReplyDeleteThanks Melissa! Me too. :) I think it's so pretty, both on its own and as an understated, soft base for a layered mani.
DeleteReally, really pretty...perhaps I need to go shopping again....!
ReplyDeleteIt's always a good time to go polish shopping! ;)
