OPI Here Today... Aragon Tomorrow

Meet one of my biggest polish disappointments: OPI Here Today... Aragon Tomorrow. When I bought this polish, I wanted it to be a deep sage green. What I got was a polish that looks virtually black unless you stare really, really closely at it.

This picture is with flash and even then, you still can't see much--if any--green. The green is more evident at the first coat, but after that this polish basically becomes black. I guess you could stop at one or two coats if you wanted to preserve more of the green, but the opacity is too streaky and uneven for my tastes until you reach three coats, which is what I used here.

I've only worn this polish twice since I first got it, which was quite a while ago. I know some people love them, but I've never been a fan of near-black polishes. If I wanted black, I'd just wear black. If I wanted green, I'd go with something much greener than this. I do, however, really want the suede version of this polish, because it is much more green. I can't say I'm a real fan of the original though.

Do you like near-black polishes? What are some of your most disappointing polish purchases?

  1. I like some near black polishes, if that is what I feel like wearing at the time. I completely agree with you on this one, and about the suede version. The suede on is stunning, whereas I find this one kinda meh.

    1. Yeah, it's a strange one. What's the point in giving it green tones if it just winds up looking like this? :(

  3. There's a China Glaze one...(I think "Near Dark"?) that gives me the same pangs of disappointment. I mean, if I wanted black, I'd just wear black, dammit! :) It still looks nice on you, if that's any consolation!

    1. Exactly! I don't really "get" near-black polishes I guess. But thanks, at least that is some consolation, yes! :)

  4. Maybe you can use it as a base for layering

    1. Actually I was originally planning on using this as a base for LynBDesigns Du-Wop but then I saw how opaque Du-Wop was and just took a swatch pic of this polish before removing it and wearing Du-Wop on its own. But you are right, I think I can find a combo that will make this polish work for me eventually!

  5. What a shame! Every time I've seen this is stores it intrigues me, but now that I know it's basically black, I'll pass.

  6. I have had this happen to me before...it's frustrating! They look like the color I want in the bottle, but once on the nail it's practically black. I try to avoid these now.

    1. This polish has made me permanently wary of accidentally buying near-blacks!

  7. *whispers* I actually like this one. The thing that confused me about it was the formula ... grainy, but buildable. Same with Suzi Skis in the Pyrenees.

    1. That's okay, to each their own! :) I actually do like Suzi Skis though, even if it is another one of those almost black types of colors. I guess b/c I knew what I was getting with that one whereas with this I got something completely different than what I had expected.

  8. Ugh, I hate it when a polish disappoints like this! I always see it in the store and the bottle colour looks intriguing...good to know it's definitely skippable. The suede version on the other hand... :)

  9. I like these dark colors, but I do feel a surge of disappointment when you can't really tell what color it is because it is to darkened.

    1. I know! I don't get a ton of disappointments like this since I try to look up swatches for everything first but this one just did not work out.
