I decided to do my French mani with matte black tips instead of white, in an attempt to make it a little more "me." For my base, I used three coats of Essie Ballet Slippers, then freehanded the tips with a black Sally Hansen nail art pen.
I was pleasantly surprised that it didn't take me half a dozen attempts to do each nail. I actually did all of the tips on my first try! Yay! So from a technical standpoint, I'm happy with how this manicure turned out. It's still not really my thing style-wise but it was fun to play around with and try something very different from what I normally wear on my nails.
What is your most hated nail trend? I bet my fellow Twinsies will have some fun ideas for this one!

Thank you! I am pretty pleased with how this particular mani turned out, but I guess French manis in general aren't really my thing. The less said about duck nails, the better haha.
Deleteyeh traditional french nails are not my thing either. I like some funky french looks but it's not something I'd wear day to day
ReplyDeleteThis is exactly how I feel. I could see myself doing a funky french now and again, but not on a regular basis. It's just not "me," I guess. :)
DeleteI'm also not a huge fan of French manis, but I do like this twist!
ReplyDeleteThanks Amanda! I tried to spruce it up a bit.
DeleteI kind of love this on you. I'm a sucker for a french mani, but never a traditional. I try to put a spin on it each time!
ReplyDeleteThanks Heather! I think it's always fun to try and put a new twist on traditional designs.
DeleteDuck nails... How is that a thing???
ReplyDeleteI look at them and is forced to wonder who would ever do that to themselves. It's just so...wrong.
DeleteHmmmm...I kinda like this!! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Maribeth! :)
DeleteI think this looks great on you! I like that you used black for the tips. And yeah, duck nails are gross.
ReplyDeleteThanks Melissa! I think the black tips turned out pretty well. I will NEVER understand how duck nails became a thing. They are horrendous-looking!
DeleteI think the flared duck feet nails are hideous but now this. This is cute. I love this. Standard french tips are so yesterday and I like the amped up look with the black instead. Tres Chic.
ReplyDeleteAww, thanks! :) At first I was worried that the black tips would just make it look like I had dirt under my nails or something, but I think they turned out pretty cool!
DeleteYuck to duck nails! I like your funky french though :)
ReplyDeleteThank you! And yes, duck nails are a travesty!
DeleteI actually like this mani.
ReplyDeleteThanks Marisa!
DeleteThis combo looks great! I don't know if I've ever worn a french tip mani.
ReplyDeleteThanks Lakeisha! I remember buying some kind of Sally Hansen French manicure set back in middle school, but I totally screwed up on my first attempt with it and never used it again. I think that's the only time I've tried a French tip before this mani!
DeleteEeek duck nails...lol. I love how so many of the Twinsies have mentioned that. I was thinking of doing a french mani for this too because it's not something I do or wear...I think yours looks really cute! hehe
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, I never realised duck nails were a THING. I just thought there were some really bad nail techs out there! Now you're telling me it's intentional? Help.
ReplyDeleteI love the mani! I like spiced up French mani's, and this one is starts all innocent with the nude and then BAM. Black tips. So cool!
Back when I used to get acrylics, I'd always get the traditional. I'm over the traditional style now but like the occasional funky french.
ReplyDeleteI like the French sometimes but these turned out great I think!
ReplyDeleteI think this is lovely! But I understand how things sometimes just aren't right. :)
ReplyDeleteI actually kind of like these together! :)
