Herbalism is made with nettle, rosemary and rice vinegar (a natural astringent) to cleanse oil, acne-prone skin without causing irritation. It also contains whole rice bran and ground almonds for effective exfoliation that isn't overly harsh or gritty. It comes in a clear, resealable plastic container for easy storage.
In addition to the smell, how you use this cleanser is also different from most cleansers. You pinch a small bit off the larger block of cleanser (the amount of cleanser you use will depend on your desired consistency, with more cleanser creating a thicker paste) then close your hand in a loose fist around the piece of cleanser and run it under warm water.
This is around the size I typically use for one application. It doesn't take much!
Here's the paste!
I use another cleanser (usually Philosophy Purity) to take off my make-up, since Herbalism isn't really designed for that, then follow up with Herbalism to keep acne and oil at bay. It leaves my face feeling very clean and provides gentle but effective exfoliation. One of the things I like most about it is that my skin feels extremely soft afterwards and it doesn't leave your skin feeling tight like so many cleansers for oily or acne-prone skin do.
Speaking of skin, mine seems to love this new cleanser. I haven't had a major breakout since I started using it and I barely have any acne at all, in fact. The minor redness I had on my cheeks has calmed way down too. I'm starting to think my skin is more sensitive than I thought, because it really reacts well to gentler, all-natural ingredients. I've been using Herbalism in tandem with another Lush cleanser, Dark Angels, and it has done wonders for the look and feel of my skin!
I most definitely plan on purchasing another block of Herbalism! Price-wise, the block I bought cost about $11 (I'd already been using it for about two weeks by the time I took the shot above, so it was originally a bit bigger), but one of the many nice things about Lush is they'll create custom portions for you if you want a bigger or smaller amount and they're also very generous with samples if you are looking to try something out. I'd guesstimate that with daily use, the portion I got will last me around three months or so. Lush's cleansers are all made without preservatives, so you're supposed to use them up within five months anyways.
Have you ever tried Herbalism? What are some of your favorite Lush products? I'm loving my experiences with their skincare, but I'm a huge fan of their soaps, bath bombs and bubble bars too!
I love Lush! If I had to pick, I'd say their Mask of Magnaminty is my favorite face product. It has a great smell and I can actually see it working to pull nasties from my skin. Currently I use their Angels on Bare Skin cleanser, but I might want to give Herbalism a try!
ReplyDeleteMask of Magnaminty is awesome! I like their Cupcake Fresh Face Mask too--great way to end a hot summer day. I received a sample of Angels on Bare Skin when I bought Dark Angels and I've been meaning to try it out! I might pick up a bigger one if I like it next time I go to re-stock on Herbalism. :)
DeleteAngels on Bare Skin is pretty gentle. I never feel like I need a moisturizer after I use it like I have with other cleansers. I also found that it tastes pretty good when I accidentally got some in my mouth :P
DeleteI don't feel the need to use a moisturizer after Herbalism either, which is really nice! I liked the feel of Angels on Bare Skin when the salesgirl used it on me--just wanted something scrubbier to contrast with Herbalism so I chose Dark Angels instead. But I think I'll try out my sample tonight! I am a big fan of having a variety of skincare to choose from based on how my skin looks/feels that day. And haha that is good to know it tastes good! I guess you can technically eat it if you really wanted to! ;)
DeleteThis sounds great :D I've still yet to try Lush products, but I can't wait to the next time I'm near a Lush location!
ReplyDeleteIt's an amazing cleanser! Lush is a magical place and I feel compelled to at least stop in every time I'm home. :)
DeleteLush is awesome, I love it! The only skincare product I've ever used of theirs was a sample of the Cupcake face mask many years ago, but I remember loving the smell. I've been wanting to try Ocean Salt and Mask of Magnaminty for the longest time. My favorite products are the soaps, bubble bars, and bath bombs. Right now I have a box filled with lots of goodies and one of my new favorites that I only recently tried for the first time is the Sandstone soap bar. I love the fruity smell of it and how scrubby it is.
ReplyDeleteI have a Cupcake mask in my fridge right now, along with a Love Lettuce mask! The smell of Cupcake is amazing. My parents both hated it when they took a whiff of it in the fridge while I was at home and I was like, "What is wrong with you guys?! It smells so good!" I have tried Mask of Magnaminty (LOVE) but not Ocean Salt yet! The linen closet in my apartment quickly became the "Lush closet" where all my goodies are stored. I love walking by it and catching a quick smell of all the fun stuff inside! I have been curious about Sandstone--sounds like something I need to try! I'm still working through a bar of Angel's Delight soap from Christmas time right now.
