This week's Twinsie Tuesday theme is a pretty unique one: a polish the same color as your car! When I was shopping for a new car about a year and a half ago, I specifically remember looking at the color selection booklet and saying, "I want any color except white or that Monterey Grey." Lo and behold, Monterey Grey was what they had in the model I wanted, so Monterey Grey is what I got. I like the car but the color's pretty blah. It's not terrible, but there's nothing exciting about it either. Here's an old mobile pic of my car, Lola. I can't be the only one out there who names their car, right? She's a 2012 Ford Fiesta.
I may not really like grey as a car color, but I love me some grey nail polish. So I decided to have a little fun with this theme and go with Orly Rock Solid. Rock Solid is a gunmetal foil with pieces of holographic glitter embedded in it. It came out as part of Orly's Mineral FX Collection, which automatically means it kicks ass! Obviously my car's paint doesn't have the holo glitter, although that would be totally rad.
Now that I look at pictures, I see that Rock Solid maybe isn't all that close to my car color. My car is more of a blue-based grey than a gunmetal grey. I probably should have gone with what I was originally thinking: OPI Suzi Skis In The Pyrenees. But I think Rock Solid is more fun, so at least there's that.
Although it may not be a perfect match to my car, Rock Solid is still an amazing polish. I used two coats for this mani. I love the shine and texture of it. It's got this great smoky look that's perfect for fall.
I can't wait to see everyone else's car this week! What was your very first car? Mine was a red 2003 Mini Cooper and I loved it to pieces!

This polish is fabulous! Also, I've always wanted a Mini Cooper!
ReplyDeleteI *loooveeedd* my Mini Cooper so much! I miss that car!
DeleteAw I think your car is cute! So many of us have gray cars :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Brandi! I like the car but I'm still coming around to the color... I know, how funny that a ton of us have the same color!
DeleteThis polish is great!!! I love gray! Though I don't name cars, you're not the only one.
ReplyDeleteThanks Marisa! And good to know. :)
DeleteHa, I don't know why but the name Monterey Grey makes me laugh. I seriously have an infantile sense of humor.
ReplyDeleteHahaha it's okay, it makes me laugh that you got a kick out of that. :)
DeleteLola is quite lovely and the polish is gorgeous! My very first car was a $400 Green/Turquoise Geo Metro. It was the size of a chihuahua hahahaha! ;)
ReplyDeleteThanks Nory! Hahahaha a chichuahua, nice! My Mini Cooper was super teeny too. :)
DeleteStone Cold is gorgeous! Wouldn't it be awesome if there really was a car that had chunky holo glitter in the paint? So cool!
ReplyDeleteI would die for a holo glitter car!!
DeleteInteresting theme... My husband and I have a light golden colored Mercedes (and it's 21 years old) but I don't have a polish like this. I've never had an own car.
ReplyDeleteWow, 21 years old! That's impressive!
DeleteHello Chelsea,
DeleteI have a new picture now because my white cat died and I'm so sad.
Please look at my new nail polish blog. I try to write in German and in English (with many mistakes) and I hope you like it.

I'm so sorry to hear about your kitty, Stefanie. :(
DeleteIs that maybe Orly Rock Solid? I have Stone Cold and it is a vibrant blue? It's gorgeous, whatever it is!!
ReplyDeleteOh crap, you're right! My bad, I've got it all fixed now. Thanks so much for pointing that out!
DeleteI love the car and I love the polish! And I love the name - I can picture the skies in Monterey, CA which are often grey, and I have happy memories there :)
ReplyDeleteWow, the name actually makes sense to me now! I always just assumed they did it because of the rhyming, I never thought Monterey would be an actual place. That's pretty cool. :) Thanks Tara!
DeleteStone Cold is so gorgeous!! I still want it! :D
ReplyDeleteI love the entire Mineral FX Collection, so beautiful!
DeleteI love this polish! Your car is super cute too, and Lola is an adorable name. My car's name is Jenna Jetta....lol. My first car was a Mitsubishi Diamante. Oh memories lol
ReplyDeleteThanks Katherine! I love your car name, so cute. :) You never forget your first car!
DeleteI agree, your car looks great:] I love the polish you picked out. I want a holographic car!
ReplyDeleteThanks Sarah! And me too, I would be all over a holographic car, can you imagine such a thing?!
DeleteMy first car was an orange 70's Chevy truck. It was awesome. It made the rounds through all my siblings and my dad still drives it.
ReplyDeleteThat's impressive it's held up for so long!
DeleteCrossing fingers this is one of the Orlys in my Stateside haul bags because it's seriously awesome! I love that grey/glitter combo. And Lola is totally cute too, Chelsea! I think the Monterey Grey suits her just fine. :D
ReplyDeleteAah, my first car...it was a 1987(ish) Honda Accord in that champagne gold with the cutest little pop-up headlights. Her name was Blondie. (^_-)
Thanks Elizabeth! It really is a stunning polish. And I still love Lola, Monterey Grey and all. :) Blondie is a great name. My family almost named our dog that!
DeleteI love ORLY polish. And gray is amazing!
ReplyDeleteThanks Cordia!
DeleteStone cold is amazing!
ReplyDeleteMy first car was a silver Toyota Tercel.
ReplyDeleteDid you like it? I still miss my first car terribly sometimes!
DeleteI definitely miss my first car. A ton in fact. )= However, that Orly is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteMy car's name is Betsy :D
ReplyDeleteSo pretty!!! I wish my car had holo gorgeousness in it like your polish!
