Twinsie Tuesday: Color Blocked Mani

I've had my fair share of frustrations with our TT nail art themes, but this one is so bad that I'm ashamed to even post it. I spent over an hour--yes, really--doing various attempts at crappy colorblocking, most of which were too awful to even photograph. This was the "best" (relatively speaking, of course) of the lot.

This looked much cooler in my head, but as usual, my actual abilities fell short of my ever-optimistic imagination. I think the ring finger turned out alright, but then I ran out of tape and had to freehand the rest, which was a disaster. I always tell myself, "This will be the one nail art thing you can actually do!" But then of course I try to execute my idea and it all goes to hell from there. The only TT nail art theme I've actually been pleased with was my animal-inspired manicure from a few weeks back.

I'm sure no one is really interested in the details of how I created this monstrosity, but for the record, I used OPI Mermaid's Tears as my base color and China Glaze First Mate on top. I love both these polishes on their own merits and I felt bad torturing them with my horrendous attempts at nail art.

I wonder how my fellow Twinsies fared with this challenge. Be sure to check out everyone's blogs below to see!

  1. I love these colors together! I had a hell of a time with this one too. I hated how mine came out, but knew if I attempted more they would continue to get worse!

    1. Thank you! I tried sooo hard and I'm not sure if they got progressively worse or not, but I do know they were all crappy hahaha.

  2. Beautiful colour choices, Chelsea! I can't even imagine how some people manage freehanding colour blocks like these--I actually had some Post-It Notes standing by in case I ran out of tape. >_<

  3. I agree, these colors are really pretty together! And taping NEVER EVER EVER works out for me, so everything's a freehanded mess ;]

    1. I know, I always botch taping! My polish always feels dry and then it rips right off with the tape--frustrating!

    1. That's usually all I can aspire to with these nail art posts is to at least get some laughs out of them. And yes, we always struggle through these together!

  8. Love the color combo! I don't think this looks bad! I hate it when I have an idea in my head and it doesn't translate onto my nails!

    1. Thanks ChiChi! I like the idea of taping and getting super clean lines but I always wind up just making a big mess haha.

  11. Taping is so hard work! Once I tried a Dita-von-Teese-Look with this technique and my result was so bad.

I like your color choice. I thought the colors have to be more different for blocking.

Please look at my cheated version (I lacquered the green one over the pink I was wearing since three days)...

  13. Oh no! Sorry you ran out of tape. That does create a bit of a problem when you're doing a tape mani. You gave it a valiant effort! ;)

  14. I actually LOVE that you didn't go all the way across the bottom and made that box like shape. I need to try this!

    1. I like the design itself, I just wish I had the taping skills (or the tape, for that matter haha) to get super clean, crisp lines to really pull off the design. I bet you could do it!

  15. Sorry it didn't turn out the way you wanted it :(. I like it though. Especially those two colors together.

    1. I am at least happy with the colors! :) I think a lot of us TT ladies are very vocal with our nail art frustrations. It's good to push myself outside of my comfort zone I guess. Maybe one day I'll have some decent skills! A girl can dream!

  17. I know that feeling but dont be so hard on yourself! I thought it turned out great!
