Twinsie Tuesday: China Glaze Trendsetter

Ready to face the real world again after a long holiday weekend? I'm still in "do nothing" mode, myself. But what better way to kickstart the day then with another installment of Twinsie Tuesday? This week's theme is fugly polish. We had a bit of a debate over whether this should be a polish we hate or a "fugly" color that we actually like. We decided it should be left open to interpretation, so I went with the latter.

I am a big fan of ugly/pretty colors and in my mind, there's no better example than China Glaze Trendsetter. I have a feeling at least one of my fellow Twinsies will also choose this color, as it's become an inamously divisive polish. There really isn't another polish out there like Trendsetter, a mustard glassfleck. Personally, I love it but I know others will disagree.

The formula is great and covers in two coats. The glassfleck in Trendsetter provides the "pretty," while the mustard base is...well, I won't say it's "ugly" so much as "unique." It's not a color I would normally gravitate towards--I'm not going to be painting my room this color anytime soon--but it's fun to step outside the box every now and again. Plus I got Trendsetter on clearance, so you can't beat that!

What do you think of Trendsetter? What's your favorite "fugly" color? I'm curious to see how my fellow Twinsies interpreted this theme. Be sure to check out the other Twinsie Tuesday blogs for your daily dose of fugly. ;)

  1. I have this and I love it because it is pretty in a fugly way and unique.

I am sure it isn't for everyone, but I think with the right outfit, any color can look great on anyone.

    1. I totally agree. It's definitely not a color for everyone but I think given the right set of circumstances, it can work.

  2. Unique is a nice way of putting it, but yeah...not a fan of this color. Although, I will say, totally surprised by the glass fleck shimmers. And you and Jenn are Twinsies!

    1. Haha yeah, I know the color isn't for everyone. The glassfleck is what really won me over. I knew someone else would pick this one! Yay! :)

  4. This one always comes to mind when I think of fugly polish colors! It's so different and weird, but I think it's great. I still need to try it for myself to see if I'll like it.

    1. Absolutely, there isn't another polish out there like this one, for better or for worse haha. It's weird, but I love it.

    1. Thanks Brandi! I love Trendsetter too and I've had to defend it more times than I can count haha. Any time one of my friends see this in my stash (hard to miss, between the color and the huge red "CLEARANCE" sticker on the side) they always look at me like, "WTF is this?"

  10. Ooo..very interesting. I like this better than OPI Don't Talk Bach To Me, which I'm wearing now and kinda think it's fugly :-P I saw that Nory posted about it!

    1. I wanted Don't Talk Bach To Me when the preview pics first came out and I thought it was a creme. I think the shimmer made it kinda fugly, but I'm still drawn to the swampiness of the base color. ;)

    1. I can definitely see how someone would hate this. It's the first thing that popped into my head for "fugly polish," after all haha.

  16. Hmmm... I'm not sure what I think of this one. I think I'd have to try it on for myself to decide if it's fugly or not.

    1. It's definitely one of those polishes that looks different on everyone. I thought it would look terrible on me...and maybe it kinda does, but in a cool way--at least I think so haha.

    1. Hahaha that's okay, Cordia. I don't blame you for not liking it. It is kind of...aggressively ugly. Yet somehow I still like it. :)

  21. This is a love/hate color. I don't think I wuold have bought it but I would have borrowed it maybe from a friend to see how it would look no me. It probably wouldn't work out well though since i am SUPER white. lol

  22. Did not like this last fall and did not even pick this one up when it was left over for the big old Sally's sale of 50% off the 50% off! I also did not like the OPI version of this shade...I worked in a lab that had what we always called a 'baby poop' painted wall and this just was dead on same as the wall shade I had to look at for yrs.

  23. Haha, I came so close to using this one too! It's still sitting in my untrieds, but it's one of those uglyawesome greens that I can't resist. It looks awesome on you, Chelsea!

  24. Yup I agree, it's fugly, it's unique and I love it!
I've got it myself, a while back I did some stamping over it and it looked damn gorgeous. It was a very earthy, enviorment friendly looking.
