Orly Electronica Preview

Oh, Orly... I used to love you so, so much, but your recent collections have left me feeling less than inspired. Wearing the glorious Lunar Eclipse earlier this week only reminded me how amazingly awesome your collections once were. And looking at your newest collection? Well...

L to R: Decoded, Preamp, Shockwave, Synchro

Underwhelming, am I right? None of the shades are horrible per se, but there's nothing that stands out to me at all. I know Orly has it in them to produce some incredible polishes, but  I've already seen this collection in-store and it didn't do much for me in person either. But if you're itching to give these a look, they should be available at your nail destination of choice shortly, if they aren't already.

What do you think? Am I being too harsh on the Electronica Collection? Which brand would you say is having the best year so far?

    1. I've seen the duochrome one swatched and personally I didn't care for it. :-/ The greenish grey one looked nice though!

    1. I have to agree. When I saw swatches of the duochrome I didn't like it at all. :(

  3. I'm with Jenna. Totally underwhelmed but interested in swatches of the first and last one. Meh. I think China Glaze is killing it this year! Between the neons and the Safari collection.. and the new duochrome one coming out.. I'm excited!

    1. I think China Glaze is having an amazing year too! I've liked all their collection so far this year and cannot wait for when the New Bohemian Collection comes out! I want the whole set!

  4. Must say I am underwhelmed as well, but sometimes you can make a polish work well with other things, might be worth a shot.

    1. Yeah some of these might work for layering, that's true!

  5. I saw swatches of the collection today and overall, I wasn't impressed. The gray and the blue seem dupey and the duochrome is kind of ugly. However, I think Preamp is really pretty. It would be the only one I would get.

    1. I also think the duochrome was pretty ugly and would agree Preamp is probably the only one that's worth looking into. The cremes look nice but you're right about the dupeability.

  6. This collection isn't a must have but I love the ORLY "Dark Shadows" polishes "Buried alive" and "Mysterious curse" this year.

    1. I didn't pick up any from Dark Shadows but Mysterious Curse looked cool! Buried Alive is a pretty brown but I feel like I can't pull of browns too well. :-/

  7. You are right. They don't even look like a "collection" - they don't have a theme? Hmmmm.

    1. Yeah, they don't tie in together at all. They look like a bunch of leftover colors.

    1. Cool Romance is the one new Orly collection I've gotten a polish from this year! I got Jealous, Much? on clearance at Sally a while ago. :)

  9. I think OPI and Essie are having awesome years. I'm looking forward to the Germany collection from OPI and whatever Essie puts out for F/W. OPI's Nicki Minaj, Holland and Mickey Mouse collections were all great.

    1. I'm really enjoying OPI and Essie this year too. I can't wait to see what OPI is doing for their holiday collection because normally that means lots of glitter! :)

  10. I actually have Decoded on my fingers now with the matte top coat and the blue on my toes. Both are beautiful colors and almost one coaters.

    1. Decoded and Preamp are the two I'd be most inclined to check out. :) I can totally picture Decoded with a matte topcoat now that you've brought it up, sounds cool!
